Flamingoes will face Colombia Wednesday for a place in the final of this year’s FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in India after the South American vice champions trounced Tanzania 3-0 today.
The semifinal will kick-off 12 noon in Goa, while the final and third-place match will be played on Sunday, October 30, in Navi Mumbai.
This will be the first-ever semifinal for both teams.
Tanzania gave a good account of themselves even when they were reduced to nine players late in this tie as they kept out the Colombians in the second half after they let in three goals in the first period.
Colombia were beaten 1-0 by Brazil in the South American qualifying tournament for this World Cup.
They lost 1-0 to Spain, before they beat Mexico 2-1 and China 2-0 to make it past the group stage of this tournament for the first time.
The Flamingoes must be weary of Colombia skipper Linda Caicedo, who has scored four goals in as many matches.
The 17-year-old features for Deportivo Cali in the Colombian professional league.
The other semifinal will be Germany against the winners of the last quarterfinal between Japan and Spain.
