There may well be a late twist in the transfer of Wilfred Ndidi after Real Betis tabled a formal bid for him just as he was set to fly to Turkey to complete a transfer to Besiktas after he agreed personal terms with them.
The 28-year-old Super Eagles midfielder has agreed a three-year contract with the Istanbul giants, whose 9.5 million euros bid for the player was accepted by Leicester City, according to various media outlets.
He will also get a huge signing-on fee.
Ndidi is a direct replacement for Gedson Fernandes, who has quit the club.
However, top Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu said Spanish club Real Betis have now joined the chase for the Super Eagles star, who is now keeping Besiktas waiting.
“Wilfred Ndidi, who has reached an agreement with Beşiktaş on all matters, shook hands with the Black-and-Whites before receiving an official offer from Real Betis,” he reported on X.
“However, Betis has so far been unable to reach an agreement with Leicester City regarding the transfer fee.
“This is why Ndidi is keeping Beşiktaş waiting. Beşiktaş, having previously reached agreements with both Leicester and Ndidi, remains the most advantaged party in the transfer.”
The midfielder, who has been playing for Leicester City since the 2016-17 season, has played a total of 303 official matches with the English team and contributed an impressive score of 18 goals and 22 assists in these matches.
He played 30 matches for Leicester City in the Premier League last season, scored a goal and recorded five assists in these matches.
