Hammarby IF new signing Akinkunmi has declared he is ‘little Messi’ because he plays like the great Barcelona star and he also revealed that AC Milan and Monaco showed interest to sign him.
Amoo, simply known as ‘Akin’, has signed a four-year contract with top Swedish club Hammarby after he turned 18 this month.
“I usually hear that I play like Leo Messi, so I am sometimes called “little Messi”, he told SportExpressen.
“He’s my role model.
“My strengths are the passing game and challenging one against one. I’m an offensive midfielder who can play both as a ten but also on the wings.”
The Golden Eaglets star also revealed he had the chance to sign for Milan or Monaco, but opted for Hammarby because of the support they gave him.
“It’s really easy there. Hammarby have taken care of me and I have felt great support throughout,” he said.
“When I visited the club in Stockholm I became one in the gang immediately which made me happy.”
He also got to meet the great Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has interest at the club, in Stockholm earlier this year.
“It was absolutely incredible. I was very impressed and happy,” he said.
“Zlatan is an incredibly great footballer who I look up to, but above all a very nice person.
“We talked a lot when we met and he gave me advice for the future.
“I became more confident after our conversation.”
