Former Nigeria international Finidi George Sunday night led Enyimba to win their ninth domestic league crown after they were held to a 1-1 draw by defending champions Rovers United in the championship playoffs in Lagos.
Enyimba will thus represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League along with playoffs runners-up Remo Stars, who also recorded nine points from five matches, but have an inferior goals difference.
Dethroned champions Rivers United, who also recorded nine points, will feature in the CAF Confederation Cup.
It was second time lucky for former Ajax Amsterdam winger Finidi George after he failed to win a major trophy in his first season in charge of ‘The People’s Elephant’.
“We are happy to be champions again,” Finidi said.
“The management believed in me and gave me a second chance to lead the team to victory.”
Lobi Stars, Bendel Insurance and Sunshine Stars were the other teams who featured in the championship playoffs.
