What does Samuel Chukwueze need to add to his game to be the top star many still believe he could be?
Goals.
‘Samu’ is entertainer par excellence – dancing feet, the daring dribble, showboating and the swagger.
But after all said and done, he now needs to add the end product so as to take his game beyond Villarreal CF.
His goals tally in La Liga has been shrinking season after season.
In his debut season, he netted five goals and last season he managed three goals.
He is currently on a goal in 17 La Liga matches this term.
He has played mostly as substitute, coming in 11 of the 17 times he has appeared in La Liga this season, as Villarreal make their way to the top of the standings under Unai Emery.
He also accounted for a goal in the UEFA Europa League as his effort proved to be the match winner at Turkish club Sivasspor.
Villarreal are now in the knockout Round of 32 of the Europa League as a result.
Like the Super Eagles in 2020, Chukwueze did not have much cheering news to report in the past year save for his brilliant solo goal against the Leone Stars in Benin City in that infamous 4-4 draw.
In May, ‘Samu’ will be 22 and if he failed to add purpose to his play soon, he may well end up on a long list of young talented players who never got to fulfill their long-held promise.
