British newspaper The Telegraph has reported that a suspected mistress of Gianni Infantino was paid off with UEFA money when he was at the European football union.
The newspaper reported that Infantino, during his time as general secretary of the European football association UEFA, was involved in an affair.
Infantino, who is married with four children, is said to have had a mistress.
The woman in question reportedly worked for UEFA and was promoted several times within the organisation with increased pay.
Then-UEFA president Michel Platini is said to have then confronted Infantino about the relationship, which prompted the “mistress” to leave the association.
In connection with this, Infantino is said to have ensured that the woman received a hefty severance pay and financial support for further education in exchange for her silence.
The amount is said to have reached a six-figure sum in Swiss francs and is said to have been taken directly from UEFA’s coffers, according to The Telegraph.
A FIFA spokesperson said Infantino denies the allegations.
“FIFA President Gianni Infantino strongly denies the allegations, which are categorically untrue. Any suggestion of inappropriate behaviour or breach of statutes or rules is defamatory,” the spokesperson told The Telegraph.
UEFA have also confirmed that a payment to Infantino’s alleged mistress has been made.
“We are aware of the allegations and can confirm that a severance package was paid to the individual in question. The payment was in line with the rules applicable to employees leaving at the time,” a UEFA spokesperson told The Telegraph.
