Belgian coach Hugo Broos will lead South Africa to Nigeria next month for a very important 2026 World Cup qualifier, but he has also admitted he will not rule taking up another job.
Broos, who has been heavily criticised by the South African media, was widely linked with teaming up with Algeria after the 2023 AFCON in February.
The coach himself has revealed he has been approached by Club Brugge in his native country, but has yet to accept.
“I am happy as coach of South Africa. I have a team that is doing well. I do not expect to change employers and I certainly will not coach elsewhere,” maintained the 71-year-old coach, who led Cameroon to win the 2017 AFCON.
“I cannot yet say whether I will say yes to Club Brugge.
“But for the time being, nothing is happening yet.”
Super Eagles welcome Bafana Bafana to Uyo on June 7 after both teams slugged it out in a pulsating AFCON semifinal in February that had to be decided by a penalty shootout.
Nigeria are third in Group C of the 2026 qualifying group with two points from as many games, while South Africa are second on three points.
