Nigeria National League (NNL) side Real Stars, who are owned by former sports minister Ismaila Sambawa, have been put up for sale due to “crippling costs of maintaining the club”, officials have told SCORENigeria
The Kaduna-based club managed by former Super Eagles star Garba Lawal will therefore not feature in this season’s league, which kicks off this weekend across the country, and they could now go for around 11 million Naira, officials further informed SCORENigeria
“The team have stopped training after the owner said he could no longer bear the costs of running the club,” a top official told SCORENigeria
In only their first season in the second-tier NNL, Real Stars reached the promotion playoffs playing an attractive passing game while parading young and untested players.
Last season, they finished runners-up in their section of the competition.
Another NNL outfit, 36 Lion of Lagos, have dropped to the amateur league citing mounting costs and compromised integrity of the league.
