Hamdi Akujobi has received a massive vote of confidence at SC Heerenveen as he is set to enjoy more game time in the new season after coming through his first season as a professional, top officials said.
Last year, Akujobi, who has trained with the Flying Eagles, flourished with the U19s of the Dutch club to be handed a three-year contract.
He made four appearances in the league, while captaining the reserves in the last campaign.
In the new season, Akujobi, 20, could play at right back or in central midfield with the Dutch club confident he will deliver.
Heerenveen sports director Gerry Hamstra said the club will look at working a lot more with their youngsters like Akujobi.
“We have a lot of confidence in Hamdi Akujobi,” Hamstra said.
“He can play in central midfield or as a right back.”
However, Hamstra disclosed they are still in the market for two goalkeepers, a left central defender and a striker.
