Former Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo has revealed he could have signed for Besiktas before he ended up at another Turkish giant Galatasaray.
Etebo played for Galatasaray on loan from English club Stoke City in the 2020/2021 season. He made 29 appearances.
However, he has now revealed that Besiktas first had the chance to sign him.
He recounted: “An interesting situation arose when I was transferring from Stoke City to Galatasaray. When it was certain that I would be leaving Stoke City, my agent called me.
“When my agent first called me, the first team he told me about was Beşiktaş. I was going to transfer to Beşiktaş and he even showed me the official letter. I said ‘OK’ to this offer.”
“When my manager called me the next day, he said, ‘Beşiktaş didn’t work out, you’re going to Galatasaray.’ I was also very surprised that the decision changed so quickly in one day.”
