UEFA have asked FIFA questions they want answered.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino is under pressure – after the scrapped proposal to sell shares of the World Cup to investors.
Uefa are looking for a rival candidate for next year’s presidential election and are now putting pressure on FIFA in a new letter.
The BBC reported that Uefa, through a letter from Secretary General Theodore Theodoridis, are demanding that Fifa answer questions about, for example, the corporatization of the World Cup, Fifa’s Peace Prize and American forward Folarin Balogun’s alleged suspension during the past World Cup finals.
The requirement is to receive answers to 42 different questions by November 2 of this year.
“The withdrawal of the FFE (corporation of the World Cup), the admission of mistakes and the announcement of ‘potential governance reforms’ do not answer the question of how the relevant decisions were made or why the FIFA Council was not involved at an appropriate stage,” the Uefa letter stated, according to the BBC
“Each decision to refuse to release information or documents must be justified separately with a clear explanation of the specific reasons invoked. These questions must be answered now. The answers cannot be postponed to the next meeting of the FIFA Council, nor can future governance reforms replace review of decisions already taken and accountability for those decisions,” it further states.
UEFA are also calling for an independent investigation into the proposal to sell World Cup shares and expressing concerns about Infantino’s discussions with US President Donald Trump about creating a FIFA cryptocurrency.
However, Uefa did not clarify what measures may be taken – if Fifa do not answer all questions by November 2
