Portugal have suspended Cristiano Ronaldo for walking out on the team recently.
A dissatisfied Cristiano Ronaldo chose to leave the Portugal national team camp because he was not happy with coach Jorge Jesus – and lack of playing time.
According to Portuguese media, the 41-year-old violated the association’s rules by leaving the gathering – and risked a 1-6 month suspension.
How long he will actually be suspended is unclear – but the federation announced that Ronaldo is temporarily suspended while an investigation takes place.
“Initiation of disciplinary proceedings against Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, as decided by the non-professional section on October 9, 2026, with the aim of investigating whether the events reported on October 7, 2026 may constitute grounds for disciplinary action,” a statement said, according to A Bola.
Later that evening, the president made a statement.
“The federation, the coach and all the teammates are in agreement: we want Cristiano back. I expect him to be back already during the international break in November,” Pedro Proença said, according to Fabrizio Romano.
“Cristiano is also willing to return. He is the best of all time.”
Over the years, Ronaldo has played 234 international matches for Portugal, scoring 146 goals.
He is set for more international matches, he wrote on Instagram, despite reports that he had retired from the national team.
