Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has again come down hard on Cristiano Ronaldo, claiming that the legendary star was washed up after his time at Juventus about eight years ago.
Dutch coach Ten Hag has already hit out at Ronaldo for “betraying” United.
In an interview with ESPN, the Dutchman has sent out another salvo at Ronaldo who – according to ten Hag – did not want to work for his teammates.
“That was simply the problem with Ronaldo. The players wanted to work for him, because they naturally looked up to him. Let there be no misunderstanding about that. He is a fantastic player, the greatest in the world,” said ten Hag.
“That’s actually the reality: he simply hasn’t been able to deliver at that level in the last seven or eight years. Since his time at Juventus, it’s simply over.”
Cristiano Ronaldo left Spain for Italy in 2018 and then joined Manchester United in the summer of 2021.
“That’s Real Madrid’s great strength: they know when it’s the right time to part with players. They realize when a player’s level starts to drop,” said ten Hag.
The Dutchman was in charge of Manchester United from 2022 to 2024 before he was sacked.
Today, he is the technical director of Twente
