Many have described Ridwan Abdulrazaq Popoola as a shock invitee by the Super Eagles for next month’s friendly against Russia, but coach Eric Chelle has said he has picked a midfield dynamo, who is “a bit special”.
The 20-year-old Abdulrazak moved this summer from Hungary for about 1.6 million euros to Wasl in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and he is now expected to stake a claim for a place in the Nigeria U23s beginning with the friendly against Russia on October 6.
A source close to the Super Eagles coach told SCORENigeria: “Eric said the boy is a bit special.
“His invitation was not an accident as he has been monitoring him when he had a great season in Hungary and was expected to make a big transfer to a bigger league in Europe.”
SCORENigeria checks further that the defensive midfielder enjoyed a great season with Kisvarda in the Hungarian first division before he opted for the cash in Dubai.
He is a top ball winner and a defensive powerhouse, who is tipped to play a big role in the country’s team pushing to qualify to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles..
