The Super Eagles have announced that Victor Osimhen will now not be available for 2027 AFCON qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea Bissau.
This is because his recovery from injury has been delayed.
Coach Eric Chelle listed Osimhen on his final 24-man squad for the AFCON qualifiers, which begin this coming weekend, even after his club Galatasaray asked that he be left out for him to fully recover.
The striker suffered a muscle strain earlier this month in a Super Lig clash against Basaksehir.
The Super Eagles said they had been hopeful he would be fit in time for the qualifiers, but that has not been the case.
Galatasaray did not list him for Saturday’s Super Lig derby against Trabzonspor, which they lost 4-0.
The Super Eagles welcome Madagascar to Uyo on September 25 with another AFCON qualifier in Guinea Bissau four days later.
They will also face Russia in a friendly on October 6.
