He may already be 40 years old and even hinted on retirement from international football, but Luka Modric will for the time being continue to feature for Croatia.
The AC Milan midfielder has informed Croatian Federation President Marijan Kustic and the country’s national coach Slaven Bilic that he is available for selection for the international break which takes place in mid-September.
“Luka’s decision makes me incredibly happy. We are all aware of what he contributes to Croatia, both on and off the pitch,” Bilic said in a statement on the Croatian Football Federation’s website.
“I look forward to working with him again after 14 years, and we both share a strong ambition to continue keeping Croatia as a strong and successful national team, in the company of the best teams in the world.”
Luka Modric has made 202 appearances for Croatia, scoring 29 goals and providing 32 assists.
In 2018, he was named the tournament’s best player when Croatia took silver at the World Cup, and four years later, at the 2022 World Cup, he led Croatia to a bronze medal.
