Former director of the White House Task Force for the 2026 World Cup, Andrew Giulaini, has said that it would be stupid for anyone to vote against FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
Infantino is fighting to remain as FIFA President after a failed attempt to sell off shares of the World Cup.
“It is political,” Giuliani told The Athletic when asked about the current situation of FIFA boss Infantino. “People are jealous when others achieve a lot. And what Gianni Infantino has done for FIFA is lift them to a whole new level, a level they probably wouldn’t have thought possible.”
Giuliani, the son of former New York Mayor and Donald Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, believes Infantino should be re-elected. “What I want to tell you is that for any president of a football association or football league who is considering not voting for Gianni Infantino, that would probably be one of the stupidest decisions of his or her professional career.”
He then went a step further. “If Gianni Infantino is not unanimously re-elected, the person who voted against him should get checked out,” stated Giuliani.
He also has his thoughts on the much-discussed FFE plan between FIFA and Infantino.
“Look, we are all human beings, and I think Gianni has already spoken out about that recently, but I think it is one of those things where people have observed that sport has been commercialised and turned into money,” he said.
“I would like to say that you have to look at Gianni’s entire oeuvre and realise that he is always trying to improve his organisation, and I think that is the core of the matter.
“The fact that you are always trying to improve doesn’t mean you never make a misstep, does it? As a human being, that just happens, but when I look at his work, I say: this is the person I want at the helm.”
