Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has said he only wishes to score goals and win matches with new club Ajax.
Arokodare is on a season-long loan at the Dutch giants from English club Wolves with an option for Ajax to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.
At the weekend, the big centre-forward made his official debut for Ajax in a 2-0 win at Zwolle.
He was a 73rd minute sub and he provided an assist.
“I enjoyed it. Of course, we didn’t start perfectly, but we finished the way we wanted, and that is with a win and two goals,” the Nigerian told Ziggo Sport.
“I enjoyed making my first official minutes. It was also nice to provide an assist.”
He was not concerned that he did not start the match.
“Everyone wants to start, but sometimes there are bigger things than what a player wants,” he reasoned.
“Sometimes the team and tactical decisions come first. Maybe physical reasons too. You never know. I came on as a substitute and I did my job.
“If this is my role for the whole season, I am going to do my best to fulfill it. If I start, I will do my best too. I just want to score and win.”
The 25-year-old striker said technical director Jordi Cruijff convinced him of the Ajax project.
“He told me about the team he wants to build. Ajax is the biggest club in the Netherlands. The last few seasons haven’t been the best,” Arokodare said.
“I am ready to chase those dreams, which is to become champion and win every competition we enter.”
