Free agent Mohamed Salah is now set to sign for Trabzonspor after his arrival in Turkey, but his latest destination has not been warmly welcomed by some.
Pundit and former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher said Mo Salah could still have played at a bigger league than the Turkish Super Lig.
“I think Mohamed Salah could have played in the Italian league without a doubt, and not in a league that is below his level, like the Turkish league,” Carragher said on the “Football Ramble” podcast.
He added: “Salah is like (Cristiano) Ronaldo – he has a huge ambition and his statistics mean a lot to him. In the Turkish league he is definitely capable of reaching impressive numbers, but I would have expected to see him at one of the big clubs, like Juventus or Milan.
“Perhaps his financial demands were a reason why some clubs were reluctant to negotiate with him.”
