A bullish Super Falcons coach Justine Madugu has declared that the 2026 WAFCON has now started for his team after they finally navigated past a dicey group stage caused by an opening day loss to debutants Malawi.
The 10-time African champions finished second in Group C behind Malawi after three teams that also included Zambia were tied on six points each.
“We placed everybody in a tight corner and thank God we are out of it,” admitted Madugu after the Super Falcons soared above Egypt 6-2 in a final group game to seal their qualification to the quarterfinal.
“The competition is just starting for us.”
On Sunday, Nigeria will take on Cameroon for a place in the semifinals, which will guarantee an automatic ticket to the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
“It’s a final. We won’t take it for granted,” the coach stated.
