The CAF executive committee has rejected a proposal for the 2028 AFCON to be expanded.
The AFCON currently features 24 teams, but a proposal wanted African football showpiece event to be expanded to 28 teams.
CAF committee members reported that the proposal for a bigger AFCON has been voted down.
In February at a press conference in Tanzania, CAF President Patrice Motsepe proposed that the AFCON be expanded to include 28 teams.
Officials said the proposal failed because Motsepe did not consult the executive committee.
