Rivers United took some pound of flesh off Enugu Rangers when they eliminated them in dramatic fashion from this year’s Federation Cup after they narrowly lost out to ‘The Flying Antelopes’ in the NPFL.
Last week, Enugu Rangers were crowned champions of the NPFL for a record-equaling ninth time, beating Rivers United to the coveted championship by a point.
On Monday, Rivers United got some consolation by beating Rangers 3-2 to reach the Round of 16 of the Federation Cup.
Former Enyimba striker Chijoke Mbaoma headed Rivers ahead after only five minutes off an Ubong Friday cross and Wisdom Samuel doubled the advantage before the break.
Rangers fought back in the second half to draw level 2-2 with goals by Godwin Obaje and Precious Agu.
However, Surveyor grabbed a stoppage time winner for the Port Harcourt outfit, who will now battle Nasarawa United in the next round of the cup competition.
