Egypt got the opening goal and it was a reward of sustained pressure after an otherwise even contest.
The home team broke free through the lively Zizo from the left flank to deliver a pin-point low drive into the box that beat goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali for Mohamoud Saber to simply slot into an empty net.
Captain-in-the-day Chidozie Awaziem drew Nigeria level in additional time when he bravely headed home a loose ball inside the six-yard box.
At the onset, the Egypt defence found it difficult coping with the physicality of striker Paul Onuachu and the dribbles of Chidera Ejuke.
In the 40th minute, Egypt goalkeeper made a big save when he parried to a corner a header by his own defender as it headed into the net.
As expected, Nigeria chased the game in the closing minutes of the first half and were rewarded with the leveller.
Egypt rested Premier League stars Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush, while Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze and Moses Simon did not join the Super Eagles in Cairo.
