NPFL championship-winning coach Fidelis Ilechukwu has commented on the Super Eagles vacant post.
The award-winning Enugu Rangers coach first dismissed claims that NPFL coaches lack the experience and will not be respected by Super Eagles stars.
“The problem I have with so many Nigerians is that they believe that we are too young to coach the Super Eagles,” Ilechukwu told Official54fx podcast
“I am 46 right now, people keep telling me I am too young to coach the Super Eagles. Nigerians must stop saying we don’t have experience and the players will not respect us.
“It is not true. It is important you note that every manager has a way of managing his players and players will listen to him.”
He also revealed he was disappointed when Finidi George quit as Super Eagles coach.
“One thing that pained me as a coach was Finidi George resigning from the Super Eagles because he was our pride in the NPFL,” he said.
“I was praying for him and supporting him from behind.”
He said he is open to a national team appointment.
“Every good coach needs to contribute in the national team because that is the most important thing for us, we want to make sure our national team are sound, getting result in the highest level,” he said.
“Seriously doors are always opened.
“Fidelis Ilechukwu” door is opened to take any job (like national team) if the opportunity is given to me, why not?”
