Swedish club Rosengard have announced midfielder Halimatu Ayinde will miss the Paris 2024 Olympics after she suffered a knee injury in training.
Ayinde, who has won the WAFCON thrice, was named on the Super Falcons final squad for the Paris Olympics Wednesday.
The experienced midfielder, who has battled injuries recently, will now have to be replaced by one of the four alternate players named by coach Randy Waldrum.
Spain-based Gift Monday could be the most likely replacement.
Ifeoma Onumonu should replace Halimatu Ayinde because she is young, have an height that can assist defence in aerial balls, she can defend as well, well discipline and willing to learn.
She is one of the few utility player we have.
I always referring us to watch Nigeria Morocco match during Women World qualifiers .
Ifeoma onumonu is an attacker who hasn’t really impressed in the team, I don’t think she has the capability to feature in midfield. We have abiodun, Catherine, Payne and Jennifer in midfield now. Any more injuries and we might have an issue. But with gift Monday and ajibade we have players that can be drafted into the midfield. Catherine also doubles as a make shift centre back so let’s hope we don’t get anymore injuries bcos Ayinde is a big miss.
Brilliant analysis of the set up.. Any more injury and the midfield is super light. Would have loved Ngozi Okobi or Chikwelu given a look out.
