Nigeria will again miss out on the CHAN after they fell on penalties in a final playoff to arch-rivals Ghana today in Abuja.
The CHAN Eagles led by coach Salisu Yusuf did well to cancel the two goals they conceded in Cape Coast last week.
But the local Eagles could not complete their comeback when they lost 5-4 in the penalty shootout.
After a goalless first half, Mohammad Zulkilfilu pulled a goal back for Nigeria in the 76th minute.
NPFL hotshot for last season Chijoke Akuneto came off the bench to draw the CHAN Eagles level on aggregate in additional time.
However, Ghana prevailed in the penalty shootout to go through to next year’s CHAN in Algeria.
Ghana also stopped Nigeria from this year’s World Cup in Qatar at the same MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
