Argentina are shopping for a new venue to play against the Super Eagles after Chinese authorities kicked against Lionel Messi featuring on their soil.
The high-profile friendly was due to be played in March in Hangzhou, but it has now been suspended, not called off.
An Argentine Football Association official told the Association Press that they were aware the match was suspended and were seeking another venue to play against Nigeria.
The match was originally proposed for Japan.
The Beijing Football Association said today that the capital does not have plans to stage matches that will feature Messi.
A friendly match with Argentina, first scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, East China’s Zhejiang Province in March, was also cancelled due to “well-known reasons,” as announced by the Hangzhou Sports Bureau late Friday.
That means the Argentina super star, Messi, is not likely to be welcomed in the Chinese market in the short-term.
This follows his controversial absence in Hong Kong, juxtaposed with a vibrant performance in a match in Japan three days later, which triggered growing anger and disappointment among Chinese fans and netizens.
