This past weekend it’s not the usual suspects who made the headlines as Olanrewaju Kayode continued his fine run in Turkey and there were sparkling displays by Nigerians in the Major League Soccer (MLS) in the USA.

5.Ike Opara
The award-winning defender showed his class with two goals for Minnesota United to win 5-2 at San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS. It’s still early days in the MLS, but already Minnesota United have recorded two straight wins and how well they fare this season will depend to a large part of Opara.
4.Ifunanyachi Achara
It was a dream pro debut for the striker as he grabbed the match winner and was also Man of the Match as Toronto FC pipped New York City 1-0. This was the first win of the season for Toronto after they drew in their opening game of the new campaign.

3.Josh Maja
The Super Eagles forward scored for Bordeaux to draw 1-1 at Saint Etienne in the French Ligue 1. It was his sixth goal in 21 appearances for the 21-year-old striker. Bordeaux are 12th in the standings.
2.Frank Onyeka
The midfielder scored for table-topping FC Midtjylland to win 2-0 at Randers. It was his second league goal this season. Last season, he scored a total of four goals in the Danish league.

1.Olanrewaju Kayode
The jet-heeled striker has continued to fire on all cylinders in Turkey on loan from Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk. He was again on target with a header to draw Gaziantep level at home against championship-chasing Trabzonspor, who paraded compatriots Mikel Obi and Anthony Nwakaeme. He has now scored nine goals in the league and Gaziantep could well trigger off the option to sign him permanently by the end of the season.
