It was a Titanic battle of two Super Eagles for a contract with ambitious Turkish club Trabzonspor before Mikel Obi was picked ahead of John Ogu, SCORENigeria has learnt.
Like Mikel, Ogu is also a free agent and defensive midfield and was linked with the Ankara club ever since he made it public he was going to quit Israeli club Hapoel Be’er Sheva last season.
He is said to be unhappy he did not get the deal.
Ogenyi Onazi has since told SCORENigeria that he played a big role to get his childhood friend Mikel to Trabzonspor.
He said his combination in midfield with Mikel added to Anthony Nwakaeme in attack will lift the club higher in the new season.
Mikel has signed a two-year contract with option for an additional year.
Trabzonspor finished fourth this past season and they will feature in the UEFA Europa League as a result.
