Aalesund have terminated the contract of former Super Eagles midfielder Izunna Uzochukwu after they were relegated from the top league this past season.
The contract still had a year to run.
“We extended the agreement with Izunna by two years when he was training after the knee injury he suffered in 2019,” sports manager Bjørn Erik Melland told the club’s official website.
“We then agreed to sit down and discuss the situation after this season. Based on that, we agreed that the contract will end from 1 January 2021.”
The 30-year-old defensive midfielder made 24 appearances last season for Aalesund.
He joined the team in 2019 and has previously featured in Denmark, China and Russia.
He won a handful of Super Eagles caps under coach Sunday Oliseh.
