It was a sweet 2020 for Simeon Nwankwo as he doubled his honours by winning the Serie B top scorers’ award while firing Crotone back to Serie A.
‘Simy’ posted an enviable record by winning the second division top scorers’ prize for the second time in two different countries.
The 28-year towering striker powered home 20 goals last season to emerge top scorer in the Italian second-tier league, the same tally he delivered in the 2015/2016 season for Gil Vicente to become top scorer in the Portuguese lower league.
His efforts in front of goals may not have been mouth watering among the big boys in the top flight this current season but he has shown he could be the top marksman his modest Italian side can rely on.
The former Anambra Pillars striker has got the range, the height and eye for hitting the target and his Italian side have fully utilized that to their advantage.
Though, the going has been tough lately, ‘Simy’s killer instincts cannot be wished away as he’s demonstrated this current season against Juventus, ensuring points were shared at home on 17 October in a one-all home encounter.
Perhaps, he may still on his way back to Super Eagles for the business he left unfinished after Russia 2018 World Cup.
He has thus far scored 48 goals in 109 league appearances for his Italian side.
