Coach Jose Peseiro has said the Super Eagles have to improve even after they got off to a winning start in the qualifying series for the 2023 AFCON.
The Eagles fought back from a goal down to beat visitors Sierra Leone 2-1 behind closed doors at the MKO National Stadium in Abuja Thursday.
“I am happy we won, but the football was strange,” said Peseiro.
“We were better than Sierra Leone, but I think this squad, these players can play much better.
“We deserved to win because we created more opportunities, but we need more time to improve.”
Midfielder Joe Aribo also agreed with the coach that the Eagles can do more.
“This was our first time as a group, we’re working with new tactics, new philosophy. We can only get better,” he said.
Guinea Bissau lead Group A after they walloped Sao Tome and Principe 5-1.
The Eagles next take on hosts Sao Tome in Morocco on Monday.
