Watford defender William Ekong has been ruled out of Monday’s 2023 AFCON qualifier against Sao Tome after he suffered a muscle injury against Sierra Leone.
Ekong, who captained the Super Eagles to a 2-1 home win over Sierra Leone, was forced out of Thursday’s game 10 minutes from time due to the injury.
Officials said Ekong has headed back to England for more tests on the injury.
CD Leganes defender Kenneth Omeruo will be expected to be Ekong’s direct replacement against Sao Tome after he came in for him against Sierra Leone.
The Super Eagles will fly out from Abuja to Morocco Saturday on a special flight.
They will return to the country Tuesday.
