Several close associates of Victor Osimhen said the Napoli striker will fly into Marrakesh, Morocco, for tonight’s CAF Awards ceremony, while Algeria star Riyad Mahrez has turned down a CAF invitation to be at the event.
Osimhen is favourite to win his first CAF Player of the Year Award after his exploits with Napoli and Super Eagles in the outgoing year.
He is one of the final three nominees for the top award along with Ashraf Hakimi of Morocco and PSG as well as Mohamed Salah of Egypt and Liverpool.
In the meantime, former Manchester City star Mahrez, who won the CAF Award in 2016, has turned down the chance to be part of the event probably in protest.
Mahrez, who now plies his trade in Saudi Arabia, won the treble with Manchester City last season.
