The signs are increasingly not looking good that this year’s FIFA U20 World Cup will be hosted by Indonesia after Friday’s draw for the tournament was called off without any explanations.
A top official who was billed to attend the draw ceremony in Indonesia told SCORENigeria: “The draw has been called off and no reason has been given for this.”
Flying Eagles coach Ladan Bosso and some other team officials were due to fly out for the draw ceremony.
Nigeria finished third at the recent U20 AFCON in Egypt, which served as qualifiers for the World Cup.
They are drawn Pot 3.
Dark clouds are hanging over Indonesia hosting the tournament have been gathering since a top Government official called for the expulsion of Israel from the tournament as the country does not enjoy diplomatic relations with that country.
Qatar, who hosted a splendid 2022 FIFA World Cup, has already been touted as a possible new host for the U20 World Cup should the hosting rights be withdrawn from Indonesia.
