The coach of Lille has come to the defence of Jonathan David, who was the direct replacement to Victor Osimhen but has yet to score in seven Ligue 1 appearances thus far.
Osimhen hit the ground running at the French club last season before his goals led to his big-money transfer to Napoli.
Canada international David cost Lille 30 million Euros from Belgian club Gent this summer.
Lille coach Christophe Galtier said he still expects the striker to also come into his own before long.
“David’s time will certainly come,” Galtier said at a press conference.
“Everyone has to understand that Victor Osimhen was a special case.
“I remember well that Nicolas Pépé (who now plays for Arsenal, ed.) also needed months to adjust.
“If scoring doesn’t work, you have to work. on the other things. And that’s exactly what we’re doing with Jonathan.”
