A top official has told SCORENigeria that massive changes will be carried out as early as this week in the country’s football polity after the Super Eagles failed to qualify for a second straight World Cup.
The Super Eagles fell 4-3 on penalties after scores with DR Congo stood at 1-1 after extra time in a final CAF 2026 World Cup Playoffs in Rabat, Morocco.
DR Congo will thus advance to the Intercontinental Playoffs in Mexico in March 2026 to fight for one of two qualification places for the Mundial.
The Super Eagles also failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“Heads will roll after this latest failure and it could even be as early this week,” the top official informed.
“Government is very disappointed with the way football is run in the country and this was brought under sharp focus with the Super Eagles pay strike in Morocco before their match against Gabon.
“A lot of money has been invested in football, but the results have not been good and so something now needs to give.”
