SCORENigeria has specially gathered that Nigeria have asked CAF to move the U17 AFCON zonal qualifiers slated for later this month in Benin due to the inability of the Golden Eaglets to train for the competition.
The qualifying tournament is scheduled to kick off on October 17 in Cotonou.
Officials informed SCORENigeria that Nigeria told CAF the Coronavirus Pandemic has not allowed the country’s schoolboy team to prepare for the zonal qualifiers.
Last week, Nigeria appointed veteran coach Fatai Amoo to lead the Eaglets after several months of speculations.
It was only on Thursday that the Federal Government lifted the ban on football in the country, which will not allow teams to train while following strict Covid-19 restrictions like matches without fans.
Hosts Benin, Ghana, Niger, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Mali and Burkina Faso will feature in the qualifiers with two successful teams advancing to the tournament proper.
