Amid controversies over final selection for the 2019 U17 World Cup, the Golden Eaglets have lost 1-0 to Japan in their final warm-up game in Brazil.
It will be the team’s second loss leading up to the World Cup after they also lost 2-1 to Sao Paulo FC U17s.
Wakatsuki Yamato scored the winner for Japan after 22 minutes in Sunday’s match played at the Sao Paulo FC ground in Coita, Sao Paulo, where the Eaglets have been training.
Nigeria will begin their 2019 World Cup on Saturday against Hungary.
They will also face Ecuador and Australia in the first round of the competition.
In the meantime, the 12 players dropped from the squad in Brazil are due to arrive in Nigeria via Dubai on Tuesday.
They include four players who featured at the U17 AFCON in Tanzania in April.
