Flying Eagles will target their first victory at the U20 AFCON qualifiers against arch-rivals Ghana tomorrow to make up for the draw with Cote d’Ivoire, according to skipper Mike Zaruma.
The Nigeria U20s are condemned to win tomorrow if they hoped to reach the knockout rounds of the qualifying tournament for the 2021 U20 AFCON.
A loss will effectively eliminate them from the competition, while a another draw will mean they will have to wait for Saturday’s final Group B match between Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire to know their fate.
“We got a bad result against Cote d’Ivoire because that was not what we expected,” said Plateau United defender Zaruma, who led the Flying Eagles on Sunday.
“But we now hope to make the difference against Ghana with the three points to make Nigeria and the team proud.”
Nigeria will be without central defender Chris Nwaeze, who was sent off after he headed the team ahead on 61 minutes.
England-based Temitayo Ereku will likely replace the Kwara United ace.
