SCORENigeria has scooped that the Flying Eagles final squad named by coach Abdu Maikaba for the recent WAFU B 2027 U20 AFCON qualifying tournament was not approved by the NFF technical director.
NFF technical director Austin Eguvoen said he did not approve the Flying Eagles final squad when he was quizzed by the NFF fact-finding committee sitting in Abuja.
It was also learnt that coach Maikaba only played about a dozen of the 23 players he took to Cote d’Ivoire further raising more questions about the fairness of the selection process.
“A foreigner was also smuggled into the squad, even though he later did not see action at the tournament,” a source informed SCORENigeria
There have allegations of cash-for-squad places, which have yet to be dismissed by the relevant authorities.
The Flying Eagles were trounced 4-1 by Burkina Faso in the final of the sub-regional qualifiers and thus failed to qualify for next year’s U20 AFCON to be hosted by Ghana.
