This afternoon the Flamingoes failed to fly all the way to the Final of this year’s U17 Women’s World Cup in India after they fell 6-5 to Colombia after both sides played out a goalless draw in regulation time.
Colombia carved out the better chances in normal time but poor finishing or the brilliance of Flamingoes goalkeeper Faith Omilana denied them a goal.
In the resulting penalty shootout, defender Comfort Folorunsho missed the decisive kick after it had dragged to sudden death.
She also missed her kick in the penalty shootout in the quarterfinal against the USA.
It will be the first time Colombia will reach the final of the tournament after they had failed to go past the group stage in four other attempts.
NFF President Ibrahim Gusau was in the stands to cheer the Flamingoes to a historic World Cup Final, but it was not to be.
Nigeria will now await the losers of the second semifinal between Germany and Spain for the Sunday’s third-placed match.
