New Super Eagles coach Finidi George has insisted he enjoys a “perfect” relationship with the country’s top stars amid reports he did not get along with some of them when he was in temporary charge of the team.
It was reported that during the Super Eagles friendlies against Ghana and Mali, Finidi fell out with some of the players like Ademola Lookman and Sadiq Umar over playing time.
However, Finidi maintained he gets along with the Super Eagles stars.
“I have been with the team for 20 months, I have always had a cordial relationship with all the players as an assistant coach,” he said.
“I am still the same person even as head coach now, only that the title has changed.
“There will be no controversy regarding relationships with the players.
“These are professional players and we have to give them what they’re used to in Europe; you don’t need to slap anybody for not doing your job.”
Finidi said he now needs support to succeed.
“I will try my best to ensure the team starts functioning properly and we start winning games again,” he said.
“I just want to call for your support. I know this is not an easy job, but with the support of everyone, we can achieve our objectives.”

The question is, has he invited them? Are these guys part of the list. Lookman should not be left out. He has been consistent recently even more than Desser. I don’t understand why Lookman should be ruled out. Based on the list of players reported that Finidi has submitted, we can not see Lookman on the list, unless what has been released is not valid. Nobody should bring sentiments and favouritism into football, otherwise we are not heading anywhere. This is a crucial match
Finidi is digging his coaching grave. We could remember he was part of coup plotters against Rashidi at Nigeria’s first world cup and we lost the glory. Rashidi was not giving passes. What was the result? Everyone knows that Lookman is consistently in his club than most invited players. What excuse does Finidi has against Lookman?
