Coach Ladan Bosso has exclusively told SCORENigeria he already has in his head a dozen players on his final Flying Eagles squad to next year’s U20 AFCON in Egypt.
On Saturday, the Flying Eagles rounded up training camp in Abuja with a 2-0 win over NPFL side Lobi Stars.
The U20 national team will resume training in the first week of January as the U20 AFCON approaches.
“In my head now I have at least 12 players who are ready for the AFCON and hopefully the World Cup,” Bosso told SCORENigeria
However, he will not be drawn into giving out the names of these players.
A close monitoring of the first phase of the team’s training camp in Abuja showed that new additions Dominion Ohaka, Benjamin Frederick, Jude Sunday, Francis Ayuba and Abdulrahman Adam could be among Bosso’s chosen dozen.
Ohaka, who played for the CHAN Eagles against Costa Rica in a recent friendly, has proved his class at both right and left fullback positions; Frederick has shone in the heart of the back four, while Jude Sunday is a stout left winger with Messi-like qualities.
These discoveries followed an extensive scouting mission across the country by Bosso himself.
Goalkeeper Nathaniel Nwosu, Daniel Daga, Yahaya Ibrahim and Augustine Njoku featured at the WAFU B AFCON qualifiers in Niger and held their own at the latest training camp.
The 2023 U20 AFCON will be hosted by Egypt between February 18 and March 12 with the top four teams advancing to the U20 World Cup in Indonesia in May.
The draw for the AFCON will be conducted Friday in Cairo.
