Cyriel Dessers has revealed that he came close to making a shock transfer to Antwerp before he eventually moved to Feyenoord, where he made a big impression last season.
Genk loaned him out to Dutch giants Feyenoord for him to get more game time last season.
But he has now said he was also close to joining Antwerp from fellow Belgian club Genk around the same time.
“If Antwerp had continued their bid to sign me, I would never have ended up in Rotterdam (Feyenoord). And maybe not in Italy now either. It’s all in such small things,” recounted Dessers
The Super Eagles striker finished top scorer of the inaugural Europa League with Feyenoord and that will lead to him signing for Italian Serie A club US Cremonese.
He said he still cherishes his time at the top Dutch club.
“There are many good footballers who do not enjoy personal highlights in their career. But I have had so many. AZ, Berlin, Prague, Marseille, the final (Europa League), they are all etched in my memory,” he remarked.
“And then I am also part of the rich history of a club like Feyenoord. That is incomprehensible to me. It is really something to cherish.”
Dessers has scored twice and provided an assist in Serie A this season.
