Paul Onuachu won the 2021 Golden Boot for the best player in a whole calendar year in Belgium and the Genk striker is again in the running for the prestigious award.
A formal announcement of the Golden Boot winner for 2022 will be made on January 25.
Defences again can’t stop Onuachu as the giant striker has continued to score goals in Belgium this past year and even ended the past year as the leading scorer in the league with 13 goals.
However, he faces stiff competition to remain the King of Belgium football from Club Brugge goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, who posted some big performances for the Belgian champions to reach the knockout rounds of the UEFA Champions League.
Michel Preud’homme was the last goalkeeper to win this award in 1989.
Onuachu’s teammate at Genk, Mike Tresor, could also be a contender as well as Union St.Gilloise captain Teddy Teuma.
