Enugu Rangers could be without as many as 10 first-team stars when they face big-spending Pyramids FC of Egypt in tomorrow’s CAF Confederation Cup Group A clash at home.
According to Rangers, as many as 10 players are injury doubt for Sunday’s showdown with half this number facing late fitness tests.
Among the injured stars are experienced midfielder Ikechukwu Ibenegbu as well as defenders Uche John, Akpos Adubi and Pape Ousmane Sane.
New coach Salisu Yusuf has saluted the positive spirit in the team he joined earlier this week.
“The boys have been very positive in the few training sessions we had and I believe that by the grace of God we shall have cause to celebrate after the match,” he said.
“We really did not change anything we met on ground but just tried to make the players have more self-belief.”
Midfielder Chiamaka Madu added: “Sure it’s going to be a tough game, but we shall give them a run for their money on Sunday.
“I believe that together, we will deliver the goods for our teaming followers and make our club great again.
“We have resolved to work hard and bring back our fans to the stadium after the experiences of the past weeks.”
The Egyptian cup holders, who demolished Young Africans of Tanzania 5-1 on aggregate in the previous round of the competition, are currently second in the Egyptian Premier league with 12 points from six games.
Pyramids parade as many as 13 national team players with Frenchman Sebastien Desabre calling the shots from the touchline.
Top stars include Eric Traore, Mohamed Farouk, John Antwi and Lumala Abdu Ali Gabr, Mohamed Hamdi, Wilfried Kanon and Egypt international goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shenawy.
Kick-off time Sunday is 2pm.
