The Super Falcons of Nigeria will feature in their ninth straight FIFA Women’s World Cup after Rasheedat Ajibade fired a second-half winner to go past Cameroon in a 2022 WAFCON quarterfinal tonight in Casablanca.
The 2023 World Cup will be staged by Australia and New Zealand.
The nine-time African champions will now battle hosts Morocco in the semifinal of the tournament Monday night.
Spain-based Ajibade netted her third goal of the competition in the 57th minute, when she headed home with an assist by striker Ifeoma Onumonu.
Nigeria played on the front foot from the first whistle, while the Indomitable Lionesses were happy to sit back and soak the pressure.
The Falcons created the better chances and were rewarded with Ajibade’s winner.
This caused Cameroon to come out of their shell in a desperate chase for an equaliser to make the closing minutes a nervous one for the Falcons.
