Chairman of Akwa United, Paul Bassey, has said he will consider pulling out of this year’s Aiteo Cup over congested fixtures, while lashing out at the NFF, the organisers of the cup competition.
The Uyo club shot to the Aiteo Cup round of 32 Saturday in Abuja after a 2-1 win over Sokoto United.
But Bassey told SCORENigeria he has been far from impressed with the organisation of the annual competition.
“I don’t know the fine or punishment I will get if I pull out of the competition. That’s where my mind is going,” he told SCORENigeria
“People should run football well in this country.
“I have just been told that I have my next game on Wednesday and if I win, I will play again on Sunday at a venue yet to be determined.
“Where are the resources? What of the wear and tear?”
The organisers of the competition argued the congested match schedule has been caused by the CAF deadline for the submission of entries for the CAF Confederation Cup.
However, Bassey argued this was not the making of the clubs and as such they should not be made to suffer for it.
“Is it my fault? Why should I be punished for something I am not at fault for?,” he asked rhetorically.
“Why did we wait this long? Why didn’t some of these teams play when we were playing the Super 6 (NPFL championship playoffs)?
“We have five rounds of matches to play and we have to finish by the end of June.
“Is this possible?”
