Paul Mukairu has received the top backing of Anderlecht legend Marc Degryse as the Brussels giants try to boost their firepower to make the championship playoffs.
Anderlecht have brought in several attacking players to assist striker Lukas Nmecha, who has carried the team’s goal-scoring duties almost single-handedly this season.
Mukairu, 21, has started the last 12 games of Anderlecht, but will face more competition for a first-team spot as his club battle for a top-four finish, which will qualify them for the championship playoffs.
He has so far scored two goals and provided four assists.
Degryse said the Nigerian winger should keep his place in the starting XI.
“I would also leave Mukairu there (in first team). The boy can do something,” he said.
“The most important thing is that (Vincent) Kompany increases the scoring ability in the front.”
Anderlecht, who face Gent at home Sunday, are fifth on the table with 37 points from 24 games.
They are a point outside the top-four.
